Today, on June 10, the Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin visited the construction site of the Luzhniki Water Sports Center, where he took part in the ceremony of placing a time capsule into the foundation of the new building.
Sergei Sobyanin said that Luzhniki is one of the oldest Moscow sports complexes, however, the most advanced projects are being implemented here.
The competition to select the best concept for the new building of the pool was held two years ago, in June 2014; the winner was UNK project design bureau. The placing of the time capsule should become the beginning of the revised design implementation. The area of the pool at the new water sports center will be significantly increased, but it will retain the basic features of the old building, and, therefore, the stylistic unity with the rest of the sports facilities Luzhniki will remain the same.
